When buying a wand you need to consider 2 important things first.

  • What type of wand will suit you the best.
  • What type of tether/string setup you want on your wand.
    • Short string Fingerloop, Long string, or short string Pomgrip.

Please note: ANY type of wand can be set up with whatever string preference you choose and can be switched out later easily if you change your mind. You are never stuck to one string length.

Choosing between a Daywand or a Contact Wand.

Making the choice between a daywand or a contact wand is all about your personal preferences and budget. Read the "Daywand" and "Contact Wand" sections below for more in-depth details to help you make an informed decision.

If you are a total beginner, in most cases I would recommend starting with a short string daywand because they are affordable, nice to learn on, and can grow with you through your leviwand journey.

What is a Daywand?

Daywands are lighter-weight wands and work really well for dancey illusional style flow/all general style flowing.

Updated (purchased after May 2020) Derpgear daywands are slightly heavier than most lightweight daywands available right now @ 5oz. This makes them my favorite wand to spin with a fingerloop and as a long string because they won't be as easily affected by the wind, but are also not so heavy that they'll beat you up/strain your body a lot trying to spin.

Daywands are a bit more affordable than Contact Wands. You have the option to ship it back to me & pay to upgrade it to a contact anytime in the future.

What is a Contact Wand?

Contact Wands are heavier-weight wands that are used to accomplish more on-body/techy moves. They have an added layer of silicone grip tape and weighted silicone ball end caps. These are customizable in length/weight and can fall anywhere from 8-12oz/26-31 inches long.

These are my favorite wands to use as a short string with Pomgrip and are really fun to learn tosses on/get super tricky with your flow.

Choosing a string length/tether.

Just like choosing a type of wand, choosing a string length/tether is all personal preference. Read the "String/Tethers explained" section below for more in-depth details to help you make an informed decision.

If you are a total beginner I would start with a short string (fingerloop or pomgrip) to get the basics down. I recommend eventually testing out all different styles to really get a feel for and decide what you like best.

String Length & Tethers explained

Fingerloop:

  • Attaches the wand to your hand by slipping over one of your fingers.
  • Has a little swivel on it to help prevent the string from getting too twisted up while learning/spinning.
  • This works really well for keeping the illusion that the and is flowing an is usually seen as a short string.

Long String:

  • Long string is one big loop of string with no swivel.
  • Attaches the wand to your hand or body using different "Anchor Points".
  • This works really well for even more illusion play and dance.
Here is a video explanation of how Long String works.

Pomgrip:

  • Pomgrips are little silicone knobs that you would just hold in your hand.
  • Has a little swivel on it to help prevent the string from getting too twisted up while learning/spinning.
  • These are the best if you want to learn wand tosses. These work really well with contact wand style and techy moves and is usually seen as a short string or sometimes a medium length string.

Reflective Tapes

Reflective tapes create the illusion of a “light up” wand on video when you film using flash.
